Agile Project Manager

Responsible for implementing, managing and measuring an agile development practice in a fast-paced media/journalism environment, serving a variety of stakeholders



I Agile Process 

  1. Help to define Cascade Public Media’s agile process for digital product development and maintenance
  2. Schedule and lead agile ceremonies including daily scrum, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint demos and sprint retrospectives 
  3. Create Kanban process for newsroom technical/content projects
  4. Own and manage Jira boards
  5. Break broad requirements into user stories and Jira tickets
  6. Scope and estimate work
  7. Unblock developers and facilitate getting things done
  8. Pitch in wherever necessary, be it hands-on QA, publishing content via the CMS, managing domains, etc.

II Communication 

  1. Keep management apprised of project status and risk
  2. Write weekly reports on team velocity, burn rate, etc. 
  3. Manage relationships with interns, contractors and vendors as appropriate
  4. Act as main communication contact between product/business owners and development team, striking a balance between keeping everyone informed and minimizing distractions for development team
  5. Help to build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame or retribution, with an emphasis on problem-solving
  6. Lead meetings and make presentations to large groups

III Advocate/Educate 

  1. Guide and coach development team – and colleagues in other departments – on how best to use agile practices and principles to build digital products
  2. Introduce non-technical product owners to agile and help them to develop the skills necessary to manage their backlog, groom tickets, etc.
  3. Prepare documentation and training plans for staff (how to use CMS, video platforms, etc.)
  4. Assess and adjust processes and workflow with internal and external stakeholders
  5. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice


  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  2. One to three years experience as a technical project manager in an agile organization required
  3. Experience using and configuring project management tools such Jira
  4. Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  5. CMS experience required (experience with Drupal 8 a big plus)
  6. Experience building digital products for television, media and/or journalism organizations a big plus
  7. Scrum master certification a big plus


  1. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  2. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
  3.  Ability to work some evenings, weekends, holidays as needed
