Overview

Manage Cascade Public Media assets, prepare accurate financial statements and required regulatory reports, supervise accounting staff and annual audit to build a strong organization and inspire a smarter world

Key Job Responsibilities

I. Accounting and Finance 

  1. Oversee all accounting and financial reporting for non-profit and for-profit entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
  2. Maintain accurate accounting procedures and records for all funds, including Endowment Fund, Quasi-Endowment Fund, Capital Campaign Fund
  3. Establish and maintain internal controls for receipt and recording of revenue/assets and disbursement and recording of expenses/liabilities
  4. Coordinate all financial and regulatory audits
  5. Manage cash and related cash flow forecasting to ensure availability of funds and maximization of income through available resources
  6. Collaborate with stakeholders to manage preparation of project and grant budgets and related reporting

II. Reporting 

  1. Analyze financial data and prepare internal financial statements in a timely manner to keep management and Board apprised of the organization’s financial status
  2. Coordinate preparation of Forms 990, 990-T and 1120 tax returns
  3. Prepare and/or review reports, meeting required deadlines, to external entities, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Washington State Insurance Commissioner and tax filings with all relevant local, state and federal government agencies
  4. Provide financial presentations to Board, Committees and Staff, upon request
  5. Manage preparation of the organization’s annual operating and capital budgets 

III. Manage

  1. Supervise accounting, budget and finance staff, clarifying roles and developing team members to optimize the effectiveness of the team and to reach individual and organizational goals
  2. Develop and recommend improvements in accounting policies and procedures
  3. Foster an environment of continuous improvement, establishing financial, budgeting and administrative systems to support the organization’s operations
  4. Communicate effectively with staff throughout the organization, leading the department to promote a positive, supportive and customer oriented environment
  5. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. BA in Accounting or Business required; CPA or CMA and/or MBA preferred
  2. Eight years experience in accounting required
  3. Three years supervisory experience required
  4. Thorough working knowledge of non-profit GAAP accounting required; experience with mulit-currency accounting preferred
  5. Experience with a complex, multi-level chart of accounts required
  6. Analytic and communication skills for financial statement interpretation to finance and non-finance team members at all levels
  7. Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software; experience with Abila MIP preferred
  8. Advanced proficiency using Excel and working knowledge of other MS Office products (Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) required
  9. Experience with Capital Campaigns and related accounting preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  2. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
