Crosscut Now Host (On-Call)

Overview

Cascade Public Media is looking for an engaging on-air news anchor who will serve as the primary host of daily broadcast news segments for ‘Crosscut Now.’ In this role, they will help record and produce content, while demonstrating CPM’s values of integrity, community, innovation and diversity.

Hourly rate: $65.00

Hours per week: variable

Benefits: This position is not benefit eligible

Location: Seattle, onsite

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • On-air news anchoring & reporting, as well as possible co-hosting duties for additional programming 
  • Craft and produce informative public-interest broadcast stories in order to present engaging segments for the audience
  • Excel in creative thinking, executing unique interviews and work well in a team environment 
  • Proficient in writing compelling and informative scripts for broadcast
  • Act as an ambassador for Cascade Public Media and Crosscut by participating in organization and community events
  • Research topics and develop questions for segments and guests
  • Assist producer with creative program segment ideas and writing
  • Interview guests; in-studio and on-location (remote)
  • Contribute voice over work to produced video and audio news experiences 
  • Must be creative, flexible and open to new ideas
  • Collaborate with other team members to foster a positive and productive culture and contribute toward the overall growth of the CPM
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice 

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Excellent research and interview skills
  • Previous journalist experience in television and or other visual news products
  • Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts
  • Familiar with AP style broadcasting writing format
  • Should be comfortable on-camera with the ability to deliver copy read from a Teleprompter
  • Comfortable with fast-approaching deadlines
  • Productions skills in shooting and editing content for broadcast and social media preferred 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of on-air news experience (broadcast, web, new media)
  • BS/BA in Journalism/Communications or equivalent background 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to regularly type on a keyboard 
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
