Overview

The Director of Videography oversees a team of video producers that create short-form scripted series, long-form programs and mini-docs. They work across KCTS9 and Crosscut to create multi-platform content to connect with viewers, establish new relationships with donors and works to strengthen community through our local public media station.

Salary Range: $75,000-$82,000 annually

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Director of Videography will work to create vision and branding for Cascade Public Media’s local video production seen through Crosscut/KCTS9. They bring strong professional experience in story development, video production, content strategy and technology. They manage a team of video producers in the creation of short-form scripted series, long-form documentary and mini-docs for social media and interstitial broadcast presence.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

I. Manage

  1. Directly oversee the team of senior video producers and video producers 
  2. Greenlight pitches, oversee story development
  3. Work directly with video team to create scripted series, long-form documentary and mini-docs
  4. Work with design team to create branding for each series that fits with CPM’s look and feel
  5. Manage video production meetings, daily check-ins and enforce deadlines 
  6. Responsible for production equipment allocation, equipment budget and story budgets
  7. Liaise with company’s legal department and outside counsel regarding various rights issues

II. Collaborate

  1. Support the Sponsorship team to help them secure underwriting for original video series and any other video content that can be packaged
  2. Support with the Digital Product and Marketing teams to evolve new digital experiences, special projects and promotional campaigns
  3. Work with Crosscut and KCTS9’s audience engagement teams to deliver strategically placed content to social media platforms

III. Develop 

  1. Create a culture of mutual respect, support and collaboration across departments, within Cascade Public Media 
  2. Develop an effective and efficient workflow for CPM visual storytelling 
  3. Inspire and mentor our video team to advance through timely and constructive input, and professional development opportunities
  4. Develop a culture where data is used daily to measure performance of our local content, and to inform story angles, experimentation and future planning
  5. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in broadcasting, journalism, communications, new media, business or a related field or equivalent experience required; advanced study or a graduate degree preferred
  2. At least seven years of experience producing and directing broadcast and journalistic multimedia content in a deadline-oriented environment
  3. Four years management and supervisory experience required
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of content production in a multi-platform environment, including broadcast and digital
  5. Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with peers; significant experience organizing and managing multiple priorities, and in developing and managing projects
  6. Experience with digital media platforms and programming approaches with new models of content creation
  7. Experience negotiating agreements and developing/managing financial resources
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills for building and fostering key internal and external business relationships, as well as the ability to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment
  9. Ability to continuously improve processes and systems
  10. Enthusiasm for the role of public media in a changing journalism environment 
  11. Deep understanding of journalism ethics and practices, with nonprofit or public media experience preferred 
  12. Experience with AVID, Adobe CC/Premiere Pro, After Effects, Canon C100, C300, Canon 5D dSLR, a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State driver license
  2. Ability to work a varied schedule, including evening, weekends and some holidays required
  3. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  4. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
  5. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
