Media Specialist

Overview

Prepare and schedule media for playback in quality broadcast streams to reach more people, build a great organization and increase our impact on the community

Key Job Requirments

I. Process Media 

  1. Maintain transmitter and EAS logs for FCC compliance
  2. Monitor automated workflows to transcode and move media from local edit workstations and server to play-to-air server
  3. Receive or download external content and submit to automated workflow to transcode and move media to play-to-air server
  4. Quality check local and external content on play-to-air server prior to broadcast schedule for FCC compliance
  5. Initiate and Monitor transfers of local media to archive management system
  6. Complete and process automated purge lists
  7. Switch to local live production as required
  8. Produce analog, digital and HD dubs

II. Schedule Media

  1. Execute on-air strategy, by scheduling interstitials based on short- and long-term strategic programming goals
  2. Assist Marketing and Programming teams to strategize on promotion of national program and local content
  3. Create flights, create, attach and update media records for all local media and lower thirds.
  4. Monitor availability of local media scheduled for broadcast and help facilitate delivery of missing content as needed

III. Collaborate 

  1. Follow up on discrepancy reports
  2. Work closely with, and serve as emergency backup to, Programming Coordinator
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively within the Engineering department and with other departments as necessary
  4. Work with master control service provider, Marketing, Development, Underwriting and Programming to identify and resolve scheduling problems prior to air and provide schedule reports
  5. Cross-train staff to use systems

Education and Experience

  1. AA degree from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience preferred
  2. Three years experience in broadcast or cable operations required. College or technical school training in radio/television production or broadcast electronics may substitute for one year of required experience
  3. Experience with TV broadcast operations and traffic management procedures required
  4. Familiarity with traffic management systems required (experience with ProTrack preferred)
  5. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
  6. Working knowledge of and relevant experience with broadcast workflow and automation systems
  7. Knowledge of applicable FCC regulations
  8. Ability to hear and distinguish colors required 
  9. Ability to sit and type at a keyboard for long periods of time
  10. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  11. Regularly report to work as scheduled
  12. Work independently and collaboratively to accomplish responsibilities, goals and projects

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to hear and distinguish colors required
  • Ability to sit and type at a keyboard for long periods of time
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays

This is a full time, bargaining unit position
