Description

Join Washington’s PBS affiliate stations for the final “Learn & Plan With PBS” educator workshop of the 2022-2023 academic year. Learn about free teaching and learning resources available through PBS. One clock hour is available for participation.

Podcasts are a fun way to engage youth in instructional content while also giving them multiple opportunities to demonstrate their learning and express their creativity. In this workshop, you’ll learn about different genres and styles of podcasts and will explore a collection of PBS podcasts focused on a variety of content areas.

• The Molly of Denali Podcast follows Molly Mabray, an Alaska Native girl growing up with her parents, family, and friends in Qyah, Alaska. Through this podcast, children learn how stories are structured and engage with important story elements such as characters, plot, setting, and conflict.

• The Pinkalicious & Peterrific Podcast follows Pinkalicious and her little brother Peter as they sing along to their favorite songs from the hit PBS Kids show, Pinkalicious & Peterrific. In each episode, children explore their creative side--dancing, singing, and making believe as they go on a pinkcredible adventure.

• Odd Squad: Odd Squadcast! focuses on the zaniest, craziest team of kid investigators around! This podcast makes elementary-level math a fun, imaginative experience, mixing concepts like arithmetic and geometry with fantastical storytelling.

• The FRONTLINE Dispatch is an award-winning, original, investigative news series made by the team behind the acclaimed PBS documentary show, FRONTLINE.

You’ll have the opportunity to observe how the Spokane affiliate station, KSPS PBS, used podcasts to engage youth in a summer camp program, helping them develop technical skills along with key social-emotional skills such as collaboration, self-management, and making responsible decisions. The content of the workshop is appropriate for grades K-12.
